Creating Two KakaoTalk Accounts on One Phone (International and Domestic Numbers)
You can create two KakaoTalk accounts on a single phone. Creating two KakaoTalk accounts allows you to separate personal and work use, which is a significant advantage. However, in my case, I attempted to create two KakaoTalk accounts using an international number and a domestic number. I will now show you the process.
Creating Two KakaoTalk Accounts, Dual Messenger
Most people use just one KakaoTalk account, right? Many probably don’t even know you can create two accounts.
What’s more, you can set up two KakaoTalk accounts on a single phone to separate personal and work use. This feature is called Dual Messenger. As the name suggests, it means two messengers.
The reason I created two KakaoTalk accounts
I have two KakaoTalk accounts on one phone: one created with a local number while living abroad, and another created with a Korean phone number.
Honestly, if you only plan to use the basic KakaoTalk messenger, there’s no real need to create two accounts. When you create a KakaoTalk account with a local number, it only provides the most basic features.
However, creating a KakaoTalk account with a Korean number has the advantage of allowing you to use all the features that people in Korea typically use. In fact, you can’t even create a Kakao Pay account using the local number account. The reason
I created two KakaoTalk accounts was specifically to use features like KakaoTalk Gifting and Kakao Pay payments. These aren’t possible with the account created using the local number.
Recently, I needed to send a birthday cake as a gift. Previously, I used the Happy Order app for this. However, the downside was that the cake options available for scheduled delivery were limited.
But using the Gift feature on the KakaoTalk account created with a Korean number gave me access to a wide variety of cakes. This made me feel that creating the second account was a good decision.
How to Create a Dual Messenger on KakaoTalk
To create a KakaoTalk Dual Messenger account, you first need two phone numbers. These numbers can even be virtual phone numbers. In my case, I had a local number and a Korean phone number activated with a Korean budget SIM card.
1) Enable KakaoTalk Dual Messenger
To create two KakaoTalk accounts, you must use the Dual Messenger feature. The steps to create Dual Messenger are as follows:
2) Create a second KakaoTalk account with the new phone number
After activating and installing KakaoTalk Dual Messenger, another KakaoTalk icon will appear on your phone. To distinguish it from the first one, remember that the second account icon has an orange circle. To create two KakaoTalk accounts on one phone
, you must verify using a new phone number, not your existing one. Simply enter the new number and input the verification code you receive on that number.
3) Account creation process completed

After completing verification, set the password for the second account and confirm it. To finish logging in
, click the confirmation button in the login verification message sent to KakaoTalk on your previous device. If you cannot access the previous device, verify via email to complete the login process.
Since I was already using Dual Messenger on my old phone, I handled it by pressing the login confirmation button on the previous device.
If you’re purchasing a new Galaxy phone and wish to transfer all data (photos, files, videos, etc.) from your old phone at once, please refer to the post below.
Conclusion
Today we discussed creating two KakaoTalk accounts using the dual messenger feature with both international and domestic phone numbers.
Essentially, this dual messenger functionality isn’t limited to KakaoTalk—it also works for WhatsApp, WeChat, Facebook Messenger, and others. If you need it, you might want to give it a try.
In any case, with a KakaoTalk account created using a Korean number, even overseas residents can use all the features available to those residing in Korea. This should make shopping or gifting much more convenient.
