1 Reason Why YouTube Channel Art Size Matters
If you have a YouTube channel, you probably know that channel art plays an important role on the front page of your channel. If you don’t, I’ll explain what it is and why it’s important to set up your YouTube channel art size. I’ll show you how to create your channel art below.
The importance of YouTube channel art size
YouTube channel art refers to the image at the top of the front page of your YouTube channel. In simple terms, the channel above is my English channel, and you’ll see an image at the top that says English Nomad’s Listening Diary. That’s your channel art or banner image.
The reason why the size of your YouTube channel art is important is because, as shown above, the part of your YouTube channel art that is visible can be cropped off, which doesn’t give your YouTube channel a clean front page look.
Naturally, visitors will also think this YouTube channel is crap, and are more likely to subscribe, or leave without staying long.
YouTube Channel Art Size
YouTube channel art size is important because there are many devices on which we consume content.
Some of you might be watching YouTube videos on your TV, others on your PC or tablet. Of course, the most popular way to watch is on mobile.
We consume YouTube content on a variety of devices, and when it comes to YouTube channel art, what you see is different depending on the device you’re consuming it on.
This means that no matter what device you’re watching your YouTube videos on, you don’t want your channel art to look cropped, which is why the size of your YouTube channel art is important. To explain this further, I’ll show you how I create my YouTube channel art.
How to create art for your YouTube channel
1) Create YouTube Channel Art
Creating YouTube channel art is easy on the Canva website. Just search for channel art on the front page and you’ll find tons of templates to choose from.
I chose the travel image template above and inserted some text and a simple image.
2) Set up the created channel Art on YouTube
In YouTube Studio, you can insert the channel art you created in Customize your channel. The large screen labeled #1 is the channel art you’ll see on your TV.
The long rectangle in the center labeled #2 is what you’ll see on the PC version, and finally, the small rectangle in the center of #3 is what you’ll see on mobile.
The reason I think YouTube channel art size is so important is because of how it looks on PC and mobile, especially on mobile.
If you set your channel art to that state above, viewers on PC and mobile will see cropped channel art.
3) Resize your YouTube channel art to fit
All we need to do is set the channel artwork size to fit the rectangle we’ve defined as displayable on all devices.
This ensures that the channel art you create will look exactly the same whether viewed on a TV, PC, or mobile.
This is actually a little tricky because the lines above aren’t visible on the Canva channel art creation screen, so you have to remember to resize them in channel customization.
However, if you realize that it’s the center of the screen and resize it a few times, you can get it to fit inside the rectangle, so I don’t think it’s a big deal.
4) YouTube Channel Art Insertion Settings Screen

You can insert channel art in YouTube Studio by going to your channel in YouTube Studio and going to Customize. See where it says Banner image? That’s where you’ll put it.
For reference, you can put your YouTube channel logo in the section below it called Photos. I created all of my channel art and logo in Canva this time.
YouTube Channel Art Needed
When visitors land on your YouTube channel, the first thing they see is your channel art. It’s the first thing they see that tells them what the heck this YouTube channel is all about.
This is why it’s important to have a YouTube channel art to represent your YouTube channel’s identity. Without it, your channel will look bland and uninspired, so if you have a YouTube channel, we recommend that you create and set up a channel art.
